The Pilgrim Tapestry.
Life, love and death along the Pilgrims’ Way, from Lake Vänern to the North Atlantic
Produced by the Northern Värmland Hunting & Fishing Museum in Ransby, Torsby.
24/1 – 7/6 1998
Trondheim celebrated its thousandth anniversary in 1997. Many visitors were expected to arrive in the city and that year was to be the greatest pilgrimage year since the Reformation. With this in mind a number of unemployed women were gathered together round a table in the Northern Värmland Hunting & Fishing Museum. On the table lay a thick parcel of linen cloth and masses of wool. Their job was to embroider the story of the thousand years on a forty-metre-long and half-a-metre wide woven piece of linen. They sat there nearly two years working with needles and thread. The result of their labours was shown at the Museum of Medieval Stockholm.
